RELAUNCH OF “MY.BKW.CH“ –
STRONG BRAND EXPERIENCE COMBINED WITH PERFECT SERVICE

It was our goal to develop a clear improvement of the self-service portal for all private clients and to strengthen the BKW brand in digital media enabled by a modular and process-oriented solution architecture, which shortens development cycles drastically and allows a seamless integration of classic customer processes as well as the implementation of innovative offers.

THE CHALLENGES

Our aim was to optimize interactions between BKW and their private customers with an annual consumption of less than 100,000 kWh/year. The project was called “redesigning of the online customer center my.bkw.ch”. A clear focus was to continue the digital BKW brand experience, and yet, to stand out significantly from competition by using an innovative way of information supply as well as a contemporary handling. This includes generating automatic installment plans, providing a comprehensive energy efficiency area and an easy-to-use tool to request the origin of the electricity.

OUR APPROACH

When redesigning the “my.bkw.ch” online customer services, we tackled the frontend design as well as the development and implementation of the respective backend processes. The architectural principle of the platform is based on a single page application, which communicates via RESTful Services per SAP Gateway with the connected back-end IS-U and CRM processes. In scope of the frontend the solution utilizes the AngularJS Application Framework and a corresponding Java Middleware.

Another characteristic of the project was our agile approach. Via the Design Thinking Paradigm, we could incorporate requirements user-centered and iteratively. The Scrum procedure model contributed successfully to more flexibility and higher stability of the project during realization phase.

THE RESULT

A benchmark for self-service portals in the energy sector: The relaunch ensured a successful renewal of the BKW online customer center as well as an expansion with an innovative range of services.
Using the Angular Material UI components, customized user interfaces constantly express the corporate design and guarantee a strong brand experience. Modernization of classic processes and provision of new services created significant internal process improvements and added value for the end-user.

The forward-thinking modular architecture enabled an uncomplicated connection and integration for further processes and systems on different system levels, and therefore, the prospective implementation of new services by reduced cycles.
