Lower consumption is rewarded: Primeo Netz AG's energy-saving campaign
According to the Swiss Energy Act, electricity suppliers are obliged to increase efficiency. But what energy-saving measures can be used to raise awareness among electricity consumers and involve them accordingly? As part of the current Primeo energy-saving campaign, private customers of Primeo Netz AG will receive a credit of 5 centimes per kilowatt hour on the amount of energy saved if they save at least 15 percent of their electricity consumption in the period from December 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025. Customers who already participated in the previous year have a reduced savings target of 7.5%. We were tasked with mapping this non-standard process in the SAP IS-U module, providing interfaces for the customer portal and implementing data management (read/write).
THE CHALLENGES
Two perspectives and corresponding requirements had to be taken into account:
The customer should be able to interact in self-service mode in the customer portal at different times during the campaign.
- Before the start of the campaign: Determine which individual measuring points are permitted for participation and register the measuring points for the campaign.
- During the campaign: View the interim status of personal savings on a daily/monthly basis (aggregation of measurement data).
- After the campaign: View the total savings including information on whether or not the savings target has been achieved.
The campaign manager required analysis tools.
- Before the campaign: Identify eligible customers for appropriate pre-campaign communication.
- During the campaign: Collect an interim status and determine all e-mail addresses for campaign newsletters.
- After the campaign: Evaluate the savings and derive the rewards.
In addition, large amounts of data had to be mastered, both in the measurement point calculation (aggregation of the 15-minute load profile values) and in reporting, which analyzes all measurement points of the 180,000 Primeo Energie customers.

OUR APPROACH
As all the data records required for the action are available in SAP IS-U, we designated this as the process-leading system. Registrations are stored fully automatically as investment facts in SAP IS-U. In the event of a move-out during the promotion period, the investment fact is automatically delimited, which leads to the termination of participation. Powerful data algorithms provide information on the participation status and the aggregated consumption values from the meter reading documents or the EDM load profile values in the shortest possible response time. The comparative values from the previous year's period are determined on a daily basis.
ABAP OO masters the complexity of the process-controlling system. The graphical user interface of the customer portal was provided with an API (interface) perfectly modeled to the screen design. Parallel processing allows analytical reporting to be carried out directly on the S/4HANA system “on demand”.

The intuitively usable solution has been well received: thousands of participants have registered for this year's campaign and saved 285 MWh of electricity (total of all successful participants compared to electricity consumption in the same period last year).
