Our review of the InternationalSAP Conference for Utilities & Energy in Basel

Last week, the International SAP Conference for Utilities & Energy in Basel was on our calendar. From 18 to 20.4.2023, international industry experts and decision-makers met to take advantage of the informative and varied lecture and supporting program, but above all: to network. According to official SAP information, the number of participants at the Utilities Conference was higher than ever!

As Bronze Sponsor for Utilities, we welcomed our visitors at the inpeek booth under the motto “A Fresh Perspective on Energy Solutions” with interesting insights and news around our focus topics DigiNet, Self-Services and Empowerment – virtual tour through the inpeek office included. Many thanks to our guests, customers and partners on site, we were very happy about your visit!

In addition to inspiring conversations with old and new acquaintances, we did not miss any presentations and case studies that were worth seeing. Here are our top 7 topics and insights:

  1. SAP offerings for utilities will be gradually expanded over the next few years. A big bang for innovations is not planned.
  2. S/4HANA Utilities will be expanded, this concerns e.g. the AMI sector.
  3. The cloud solution for utilities is now called “SAP Utilities Core”. Among other things, it includes cloud services that can be used in addition to on-premise services (for example, market communication in Germany) and is a 1:1 replacement for utilities that want to switch from on-premise IS-U completely to the cloud.
  4. The modern CRM solutions are now bundled under “CX for Utilities”. In the near future (2023/24) there will be a Sales Cloud V2 and a Services Cloud V2 to migrate to. In addition, certain processes from Utilities will be integrated into Emarsys.
  5. Asset management will be better and more sophisticated.
  6. Cloud for Energy has been declared a pure energy data management (EDM) solution and is now being continuously enhanced with EDM features such as replacement value creation.
  7. SAP groups various new products under the terms DER (Distributed Energy Resources) or Sustainability. In this context, among others, a comprehensive solution for e-car charging stations (billing, station management, etc.) is being worked on.
  8. This point is out of competition: The inpeek muesli bars were definitely a very popular addition to the official catering offer in Basel 😉
